THE STORY
There once was a man who was walking along the side of a cliff, when a great wind swept him over the side.
Luckily, there was a small tree growing out of the side of the canyon, which he grabbed and was able to save himself from falling.
As he was holding on for dear life, he heard a voice that said, "Do you believe that I created the wind that swept you into this canyon?"
And the man said, "Yes, Lord, I believe."
And the voice said, "Do you believe that I created this tree that has saved your life?"
And the man said, "Yes, Lord, I believe."
And the voice said, "And do you believe that I could create a wind that would be so strong, it would pick you up and land you safely at the top of the ridge?"
And the man said, "Yes, Lord, I believe."
And the voice said, "Then let go."
THE LESSON
I first heard this story many years ago (I'm afraid I do not know the author) and have thought of it often. I always thought that if that had happened to me, I would not have the courage to "let go"--my faith was strong, but not that strong!
But things have massively changed for me in the last year, and I have come to realize this great truth: If you do not feel like you are falling every moment of your life, then you are not walking by faith.
Starting this blog is an enormous step out in faith for me.
Last month, Brent and Shayne encouraged us to speak up and promote the positive changes that the "Beyond Freedom" personal development program has had in our lives. For me, in just a very short period of time, it has uncovered layers and layers of "stuff" that has kept me stressed out, over committed, overworked, and unsuccessful for YEARS. It's like I was on a stationary bike, and I thought if I just pedalled harder, I would get where I wanted to go. I am just now beginning to experience the freedom of the open road.
This blog will serve a dual purpose.
First, it will serve as evidence of the amazing changes that the Beyond Freedom program is capable of making, not only in my life, but in yours as well.
Second, it will serve as my personal journal--and this is the scary, walking out by faith part. In this journal, I am publishing to the world the deepest, most intimate parts of what makes up me--both the good and the stuff that needs to be gotten rid of. It will mention people who have had a major impact on me, and they may not like what they read. It will mention events that have shaped who I am and who I am becoming, and the people involved may or may not agree with my recollection of details or my interpretation of them. It will be like I am on my very own reality show.
Whew--I feel like I am falling just thinking about it! But, as I have recently learned, that is the true test of walking by faith.
So, onward and upward. I can't wait to see what is in store.
